Design Manager

In this role you will lead the design management across one or more projects within Willmott Dixon’s Midlands portfolio, ensuring buildability, compliance and value for customers. You will coordinate with architects, engineers and contractors to translate requirements into robust design plans and manage external design partners. The role emphasizes collaboration, risk and change management, and applying sustainable, MMC-based solutions to meet project objectives. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated, quality designs that align with regulations and project budgets. • Manage the design phase from concept to construction documentation while ensuring compliance with objectives, codes, and standards
• Select and appoint design partners and allocate design responsibilities within the supply chain
• Procure design solutions (including MMC, materials, finishes) aligned with budgets and timelines
• Coordinate and prepare design reviews to identify risks and implement corrective actions
• Collaborate with architects and engineers to develop comprehensive design plans and specifications
• Coordinate and manage external design consultants, ensuring design integrity and quality

• Working knowledge of the wider construction industry, sustainability and social value commitments
• Strong communication and negotiation skills
• Technical knowledge of construction design principles across architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines
• Team-player attitude
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, and software to review 3D models
