Prospero Teaching is recruiting confident and professional Secondary Cover Supervisors to work in secondary schools across the Portsmouth area.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain valuable classroom experience while supporting students and schools on a day‑to‑day, short‑term, or long‑term basis.

As a Secondary Cover Supervisor,

you will be responsible for supervising classes in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring students remain engaged with learning, complete set work, and maintain high standards of behaviour throughout lessons.

This role is ideal for graduates, aspiring teachers, sports coaches, tutors, youth workers, and experienced education professionals looking to build a career within secondary education.

The Role:

Supervise lessons across KS3 and KS4 in the absence of the class teacher

Deliver pre‑planned lesson materials and instructions

Ensure students remain focused and engaged with learning

Manage classroom behaviour in line with school expectations

Support students with classwork and learning activities where appropriate

Cover a range of subjects across the secondary curriculum

Provide feedback to teaching staff following lessons

Maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment

Follow safeguarding and school policies consistently

Ideal Candidate:

Experience working with young people

Confident leading groups of students independently

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Calm, professional, and adaptable approach

Excellent classroom management abilities

Able to build positive relationships with students and colleagues

Contract Details:

Position: Secondary Cover Supervisor

Location: Portsmouth

Start Date: ASAP

Working Pattern: Full‑time or flexible opportunities available

Pay Rate: Up to £130 per day

Key Stages: KS3 & KS4

Experience, Training & Safeguarding:

Experience working with young people essential

Classroom experience desirable but not essential

Safeguarding training can be provided

Enhanced DBS desirable or willingness to obtain one
