Contractors Responsbile Engineer (CRE)
Role Description & Technical Scope
As a Construction Responsible Engineer, you will drive safety and compliance on a live rail programme, providing engineering oversight through construction and delivery phases. You will work with project teams and Network Rail stakeholders to ensure governance and standards are met, shaping engineering assurance and design integration. This role offers a path towards Contractor's Engineering Manager, within a cross-functional rail environment. You’ll influence risk management, documentation quality, and stakeholder engagement to deliver a successful depot upgrade and rail projects.
Responsibilities- Act as the nominated CRE within your discipline
- Ensure activities are delivered safely and in accordance with Network Rail standards
- Provide engineering oversight through construction and implementation
- Review and manage technical documentation, work packages, and assurance records
- Support planning, risk management and change control
- Coordinate with designers, project managers, construction teams and Network Rail stakeholders
- Assist with engineering acceptance and assurance activities
- Monitor compliance with standards, specifications and safety requirements
- Participate in site inspections, progress meetings and technical reviews
- Support development of engineering management processes and leadership activities
- CRE experience on Network Rail projects
- Strong understanding of Network Rail engineering assurance and project delivery processes
- Experience in multidisciplinary rail infrastructure environments
- Familiar with railway standards, construction methodologies and governance requirements
- Comfortable engaging with multiple stakeholders across consultancy, contractor and client teams
- Excellent communication and technical reporting skills
